The Illinois Department of Transportation announces that the ramp from Riverfront Drive to eastbound Washington Street in East Peoria will close Monday, Feb. 24. The closure is necessary to allow reconstruction of the ramp to accommodate future detour traffic from Interstate 74. All current eastbound Washington Street traffic will be detoured to westbound Washington toward the Bob Michel Bridge (Illinois 40) and River Road. The ramp is expected to reopen in its original configuration by Thanksgiving, when construction on the Murray Baker Bridge (I-74) is complete.  Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area.  To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered.  Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
